I do not give a flying frog, a monkey’s toes or a donkey’s hoo haa if the sex of my baby is known or unknown, if there is life and a heartbeat, I won’t have anyone refer to my unborn child as an “it”.
This has become very common, with the excuse of “not knowing the sex of the baby”. Oh another one even said “the mother might get offended if she is carrying a girl and u randomly call the baby a “he ” .”
Funny, no She might get offended by that, but not by likening her baby to a “tumbler” or a “slice of plantain.” Please if you don’t want to guess and get the mother offended, then take the pain to say “he or she”, that can be said in less than one second. I promise you will not die.
Come on now, we call our schools “she”, or countries with so much dignity “she gained her independence” much worse even our pets “he’s sick” “she’s hungry” but when it comes to your specie, you demote the pronoun reference.
I completely disagree with any proposed grammatical or literary explanation. A baby is a he or a she like you and like me, Not an It.
It is that serious.
