Because Every Moment Matters…
The first year of your newborn’s life EVERYTHING changes so fast. First moments seem to come at you every single week, and all you want to do is make sure you’re able to savor each step of their growth. Here are a few cute ideas from other moms and dads to help you creatively document your baby’s first year of development — that way you’ll always remember how your little boy or girl became a big boy or girl.
Put on your creative baby cap on and have fun with these ideas…
12. Photograph Snaps With Their Favorite Toy
Photograph junior alongside his or her favorite toy or stuffed animal. That way you see the contrast in your child’s growth alongside the buddy they love to hang with so much! Make sure to provide the same background to get a good contrast of growth.
11. Make Some Decorations
You might as well make something adorable that you can use to help decorate their adorable nursery. Why not get creative with some cute décor?
10. In Mom’s Arms
Another way to show contrast is by showing how quickly they grow in your arms. (This is a good one for mommies!) Just remember, when your baby gets a little too heavy to hold out, don’t be afraid to move to the floor. Exercise included!
9. Go With a Whiteboard
Easy, erasable, and the sky’s the limit with how creative you want to get with your design. PLUS it doubles as a toy for your little tyke. Note: dry erase markers come out of clothing by blotting with hairspray or rubbing alcohol. (Just in case!) You can also use a chalkboard.
8. Go Bird’s Eye
You can create some wonderfully whimsical images by going bird’s eye with your photographer. All it takes is a few tricks, and you can bring some magic into your photos sans photoshop. Get creative like these Polish parents Ania Waluda and Michal Zawer.
7. Use Alphabet Blocks
Another way to multi-purpose hack your baby photos is by using your child’s alphabet blocks. You can even spell out their name, or some other fun message (that only uses each letter once) so get creative!
6. Memory Quilt
It’s natural for your baby to quickly grow out of their adorable onesies, bibs and pajamas, but getting rid of the cute clothing items is difficult. Take all of your baby’s favorite items from their first year and stitch them into a quilt. No quilting skills to speak of? Several Etsy sellers will do it for you!
5. Baby Calendar
Physically place your peanut on top of a calendar of your choosing. It’s no problem if you’re not perfect at nailing the same day on the calendar each month, just put a big smiley on top of whatever date it is. New mommy Lisa made this adorable collage of her newborn after 12 months were up.
4. Use Legos
Basically kids toys make any of these photos more fun. Why not craft an entire concept out of legos? Numbers are easy, but think of all the things you could make…
For the baby that might be a little more difficult to wrangle, feel free to use photoshop to add something cute to a snap you’ve already taken (because we know you’re taking them all the time.) It’s easy, painless, and best of all requires no foresight — because who has time for that with a little one crawling all over the house! PS, using a plain white onesie makes for better editing.
2. Freeze Frame
Adorable and easy, just make sure you purchase a frame that’s large enough for your growing munchkin to fit inside during the twelve-month period. They’ll be your little work of art!
1. Timelapse Video
The digital age offers some pretty rad tools to show the progression of your child’s growth. This timelapse video of baby Jack shows one second of his every day since his birth. You can use clever apps like the 1 Second Every Day app to stitch together your seconds at the end of the year!
