Smoking slows the development of the nervous system in the unborn child, showed a ultrasound footage. Scientists from the University of Durham studied the differences between the 20 mothers who do not smoke and those who smoke. They tracked the development of the baby with 4D ultrasound in the 24th, 28th, 32nd and 36th week of pregnancy and found that the smokers babies touched their face and mouth more often.

Babies of non-smokers were not touching themselves so much because they eventually gain increased control over movements, or quickly develop. On the other hand, in pregnant women who smoke, the nervous system of their babies is growing slow, and their control movements decreased.
