Babies need a lot of stuff. Any way you cut it, babies are a big expense and so are all of the “accessories” that they come with!
Think about it: crib, changing table, swing, walker, bouncer, jumper, diapers, formula, stroller, clothes, blankets, onesies, burp clothes, tiny socks, tiny shoes, bath supplies, towels, bath tub, medicines… the list literally does go on and on.

But, here’s the good news: having a baby doesn’t mean breaking the bank! Here are 5 great ways to save big on baby gears!

#1: Yard Sales

Yard sales are a great way to save money on expensive baby gear. Most yard sales take place in the spring and summer, so watch for those sale signs and hit the road early! Baby gear at yard sales can run the gamut from brand new to very, very used, so be careful and watch what you buy. Yard sales are great for products that are usually expensive but won’t be used every day. That being said, there are some really great deals out there!

#2: Consignment Sales

In our town, there are several schools and churches that do consignment sales once or twice a year. The sales are HUGE, with a whole building full of kid and baby supplies at huge discounts! Some of these sales even offer half off on the last day of the sale, giving you the chance to save even more! These sales usually have high standards about what kind of products they accept and the quality of the products to ensure that you get the best possible products and you don’t have to wade through a ton of junk.

#3: Craigslist

Good old Craigslist is always a good place to find great baby products for cheap! Just make sure that what you are buying is really in good shape once you see it in person. You can find some great deals on Craigslist, and be sure to check the free section too. Just make sure to always take someone with you when purchasing off of Craigslist and always meet in a public place. Craigslist can be a great place for deals, but it can sometimes be dangerous as well, since you are dealing with strangers.

#4: Hand Me Downs

Hand me downs get a bad rap, and we aren’t sure why! Especially when it comes to baby gear, hand me downs are some of the best ways to get great baby products for cheap or even free! Babies usually don’t use any one product for very long before outgrowing it, so hand me downs can be almost brand new! And remember, what you don’t want, you can always donate to someone less fortunate. Think twice before turning down hand me downs! There can be some really great things in there!

#5: Sales

Did you know the best time to buy baby gear is during your pregnancy? It may seem obvious, but when you sign up for pregnancy and baby deals, you will receive tons of coupons and even gift cards for baby products! Fall is also the prime time to buy baby gear, since retailers will be gearing up for next year’s products. Also make sure to take your time to fill out baby registry’s, and make sure to ask for what you really need! This way you can get the most mileage out of your registry! Also make sure to hit up discount stores like TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and Burlington to score some really great deals! For what you can’t afford all at once, some retailers like Sears and Kmart also offer layaway programs to help you pay as you go!

I have always been a bargain shopping mom. I go right to the clearance racks first, then look at everything else. When I find really good deals on things I want him to have I buy it and put it away.I love learning about new ways to save and this article was very informative.
