When Ana Paula Silveira and Alvaro Zermiani found out that they would be blessed with a child, they were also a little bit concerned.

Both Silveira and Zermiani were legally blind. Though they had fallen in love, they have never laid eyes on one another. They were nervous that they wouldn’t get to experience the joy most parents have after seeing their baby’s sonogram picture.

“My major concern was not only not being able to see on the ultrasound, but I also didn’t know if someone else would really be able to describe to me what my baby looked like,” said Silveira.

Thanks to modern technology, Silveira and Zermiani were able to learn what their baby looked like throughout Silveira’s pregnancy.

Doctors made the couple a 3D printed version of their baby boy’s sonogram so they could feel what their unborn child looked like.

“With the 3D printing I didn’t have to rely on someone’s description. I could have something that was real and I could see in the way I am familiar with,” Silveira said.

The doctors printed a 3D version of their baby at each trimester of the pregnancy so they could watch their baby grow. Now that their son, Davi Lucas Zermiani, is 3-years-old, he likes to play with the 3D printed version of himself.

“He knows it’s a model of him and we explained to him why it was made,” Silveira said. “He’s proud of it and he shows it to his friends.”

Because of 3D print technology and doctors who went the extra mile, Silveira and Zermiani didn’t have to miss a single moment of their child growing up.

This is so amazing, not just that the doctor made the 3D figured so that they could follow the babies growth throughout the pregnancy but just the fact that they’re pregnant. I love seeing people with challenges living happy normal lives.
