For people in other parts of the world, medical treatment is a true rarity. Most small villages don’t have qualified doctors, and those that do usually wind up being referred to hospitals in the “big city” to deal with their often baffling conditions…and even then, these facilities are only as helpful as the staff and technology at hand.

And This Is Her Now

Grace lives in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and for the last few years, she has been living with a debilitating tumor growing on her lower jaw. It’s no small item. In fact, even though she is still able to breath and to eat, the object is now the size of an American style football. It has become so unruly that Grace has dropped out of school and taken to hiding to keep from being bullied.

Her Story Has Generated A Lot Of Medical Interest

Of course, her mother took her to their local MD, who had no answers. But when she made the trip to the big city hospital for help, they too were baffled. It looked like nothing could help poor Grace and the family soon lost hope. Then something arrived which changed everything for the better.

But Local Doctors And Hospitals Couldn’t Help Her

It Took Something Special To Make The Difference

They are known as Mercy Ships, floating hospitals which visit places where medical care is at a minimum. In this case, Grace and her mother discovered one near their homeland and sought out their advice. Doctors quickly determined that surgery was in order, and after a four hour procedure and some titanium replacement parts, the tumor was gone and Grace had her face and jaw back. It’s a miracle that the Mercy Ships could help. It’s a shame that it took such a charity to do what doctors in the Congo couldn’t.

I will so sad for the people who live in the Dominican Republic. Because they don’t have the stability that resources that we have here in America. I’m so glad that they have floating hospitals and that someone was able to help her.
