Being diagnosed with a disease like Leukemia can be a death sentence, especially if it’s not treated right away. But even with treatment, some people may lose all hope and surrender to all those negative thoughts about possibly dying. Fighting can sometimes seem futile to those stricken with this disease, and the treatments available are extremely painful and don’t guarantee any results. The repercussions of dealing with Leukemia and its treatment can be physically and emotionally taxing on even the strongest willed individual. It’s like a complete roller coaster ride of emotions for the sufferer and their family members.

Abby Furco had just 48 hours left to live.

She was 10 years old and had been diagnosed with Leukemia six years ago.

Abby Furco had just 48 hours left to live.

After fighting for a long time, the doctors finally told her family something that broke their heart.

Sadly, she only had 48 hours to live.

. After fighting for a long time, the doctors finally told her family something that broke their heart.

However, Abby had made a promise to be someone’s flower girl and she was determined to honor that request.

Abby had agreed to become a flower girl when her camp counselor offered her that position. Unfortunately, the wedding was still four months away. However, Abby was determined to fulfill her role with grace and poise no matter what.

However, Abby had made a promise to be someone's flower girl and she was determined to honor that request.

Abby and her camp counselor had bonded over several summers and understood each other.

Abby met her camp counselor, Sarah Swaim Rostock, at Camp Fantastic in 2013. This organization is run by Special Love Organization for kids who are dealing with cancer. Sarah was herself a cancer survivor and was diagnosed with Leukemia in 2003. She could relate with Abby on so many levels, which was the reason behind their strong bond. She could recognize what Abby was going through and was heartbroken when she heard that the little angel had relapsed again.

Abby and her camp counselor had bonded over several summers and understood each other.

“I know the path you’re about to walk down and I want to be there for Abby in any way that I can,” Sarah wrote to Abby’s mom.

Sarah prayed everyday for the little angel. As soon as she heard about Abby’s relapse, she found her mother on Facebook and left a heartfelt message. Sarah reassured Abby’s mom that she was right by their side and would help them in any way she could. She stood by her promise and was right by Abby’s side through everything, every test and treatment, including a possible bone marrow transplant, which was terrifying.

“I know the path you’re about to walk down and I want to be there for Abby in any way that I can,” Sarah wrote to Abby's mom.

“Transplants are really hard and they come with a lot of ups and downs and I just wanted to make sure she knew that I would always give her my best answer,” said Sarah.

Though Sarah was making sure that Abby got the best possible treatment, there was no progress. The doctor’s were worried that Abby was nearing the end of her life. In fact, they told her mother that Abby had about 48 hours to live. But Abby was not ready to give up yet. She wanted to perform at her best friend’s wedding as a flower girl.

“Transplants are really hard and they come with a lot of ups and downs and I just wanted to make sure she knew that I would always give her my best answer,” said Sarah.

“When you’re fighting cancer… you live day to day, hour to hour, minute to minute,” said Sarah. “But sometimes looking towards the future can help propel you forward.”

That’s exactly what Sarah’s motive was when she, with Abby’s mother’s permission, asked her to be a flower girl at her wedding. Though she was heartbroken by the news of Abby’s relapse, she wanted to give Abby something to look forward to and Sarah was right to do that. Abby was looking forward to being an adorable flower girl and managed to fight her condition until her best friend’s wedding.

“When you’re fighting cancer... you live day to day, hour to hour, minute to minute,” said Sarah. “But sometimes looking towards the future can help propel you forward.”

Abby made the long walk down the aisle months later, successfully throwing rose petals as Sarah continued down the aisle.

All eyes were on Abby when she successfully walked at Sarah’s wedding after putting up a great fight against cancer. She made a beautiful flower girl and was extremely graceful walking down the aisle. Sarah and her now-husband Patrick got married in Norfolk Botanical Garden in Virginia on October 29, seven years after meeting in the same camp.

Today, Abby is alive, but is unfortunately, not 100 percent cancer free. But in Sarah’s words, “she’s stronger and just amazing.”
