Long after this Honduran family’s daughter had been declared dead, a day after they had sealed her in a concrete tomb, they heard banging and screaming from within. Ecstatic and hopeful, the family scurried to rescue her. But, instead of a living girl, what they found was a mystery that no one was able to explain.

When they heard Neysi Perez banging and screaming from inside her coffin a day after she was laid to rest, her family came to the rescue, using all means necessary to break open the concrete tomb, and free her.

“As I put my hand on her grave I could hear noises inside. I heard banging, then I heard her voice. She was screaming for help,” her husband, Rudy Gonzales, told local TV news, Primer Impacto. “I couldn’t believe it. I was ecstatic, full of hope.”

In a bid to save her, the frantic relatives used a small sledgehammer to smash open the tomb, while calling out her name.

After successfully breaching the tomb, the family retrieved Perez’s casket, and attempted to revive the unconscious woman, fanning her face. They then rushed her to the nearest hospital.

“The whole family rushed in, almost breaking the door down, carrying the girl in her casket,” said Dr. Claudia Lopez. “I told them to take her out and put her on the bed. Everybody was claiming she was alive so I went through all the necessary procedures.”

Yet, despite what had taken place at the tomb, doctors at the hospital declared that she was clinically dead once again.

“We evaluated and tried everything but the girl was dead,” Dr. Lopez said.

Yet, the family claims Perez’s fingertips were bruised, while the glass on the roof of her coffin had been smashed. Perez’s mother, Maria Gutierrez, believes her daughter had been buried alive after an initial false prognosis.

“Even after a day in the tomb, the color of her body was normal. Her corpse didn’t smell. She just looked like she was in a deep sleep,” said Maria. “There was no rigor mortis. Her body was still flexible. It was impossible that she had been dead for so many hours.”

She accused the medics of issuing her daughter’s death certificate too soon.

In the events leading up to her death, the newly-married teenager, then 3-months pregnant, unexpectedly collapsed in her home after waking up one night to use the bathroom.

The 16-year-old was unconscious and foaming at the mouth. Believing her to be possessed, her parents invited a priest to conduct an exorcism on her. But their daughter remained unconscious afterward, and was eventually pronounced dead. They later entombed her wearing her wedding gown.

After she was pronounced dead for the second time, she was returned to the mausoleum from whence she had been “rescued.”

Recalling the mysterious occurrence, her father shared: “We were all so happy. I thought I was going to get my daughter back.”
