Parenthood is such a joyous thing! The very idea of creating a new life is blissful! The happiness for Curt and Misty Oglesby was doubled when they found out they were going to be parents to a set of twin babies. But the moment of cheerfulness disappeared into sorrow when they found out the twins were conjoined! It wasn’t just any case of being conjoint, their chests were attached together and the chances of survival was feeble!

The parents didn’t know what to do! Doctors said there was a 5 to 25 per cent chance of survival for the babies if terminated.

“We were given the option of terminating the pregnancy,” Misty says in a video shared by Cincinnati Children’s Medical Center. “But we felt that if there’s even a 5 percent chance they could survive, we wanted to give them that 5 percent.” The twins had separate heart and lungs but shared a liver. Additionally, one of them, Selah, had a heart defect.

During the surgery, Shyla did well while her twin Selah’s condition grew very complicated. The parents were even told she wouldn’t survive but Selah grew stronger over time. 15 months after their birth, the family was ready to go home!

It was the parent’s decision to not give up on their children that bore fruit. Today both Shyla and Selah are healthy toddlers living a happy life and bringing immense joy to their parents with their presence!
