Remember the 1996 Hollywood children’s film “Matilda?” Who could forget Lavender, played by Kiami Davael, that cool-as-a-cucumber best friend of Matilda, the same one who dropped a salamander into Ms. Trunchbull’s glass? Today, Davael is in the prime of her life, having just celebrated her 30th birthday.

It’s been over 20 years since the release of “Matilda,” which starred Mara Wilson as Matilda Wormwood and was directed by Danny deVito. The film is based on a book of the same name by Roald Dahl.

Davael, who played Lavender, left behind her iconic glasses, floral dresses, and amphibians, but Kiami still retains her coolness and beautiful smile. Now 30, she has grown into a confident, sophisticated woman.

Born in Kentucky on Aug. 21, 1996, Davael moved with her family to California to pursue her career.

Kiami Davael of 2016 😜. So, 2015 has been nothing short of an emotional rollercoaster for me! But I’ve grown so much through all those ups & downs, & for that I’m grateful. Not perfect, but I am choosing to be a better version of myself everyday, because I owe myself that. And so do you. Don’t let people’s foolishness hinder your grind. Don’t let people’s ill feelings towards you & their misunderstandings of who you are change you. Be you, do you, & do it well. Love God, love yourself, & then spread that love to those around you. Invest in yourself, be proud of how far you’ve come, & be motivated to push to your fullest potential. Don’t be upset when people don’t understand your sacrifice because God didn’t give them your vision. Stay the course, DON’T GIVE UP, & God will do the rest. I LOVE YOU ALL! Merry Christmas my shining stars ❤️

Kiami also appeared in numerous theater productions, while also pursuing modeling, songwriting, and screenwriting.

Sometimes I’m so caught up in being an adult that I forget to connect to my innocence; the angelic little girl inside of me who wasn’t tainted by the world and knew she could do ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING. And to that little girl I say “Hello fearless one, so nice to finally reconnect. It’s so nice to have you back where you belong!” These past few months have definitely been a little wild & crazy.. Full of transitions & revelations, victories and challenges. But the beauty of it all? I’m still here and I’m so blessed. Yes, there will always be challenges, there will always be “stuff”.. And it’s so important to remember that the stuff helps shape you, but it never defines you. Find your innocence.. That voice that reminds you that no matter the “stuff,” you’re fearfully & wonderfully made. You’re more than a conqueror. You’re victorious. You’re breaking through because what you’ve been through didn’t break you. I’m worthy of all I’m being blessed with.. I finally realize that now more than ever and can rejoice in. And you’re worthy too! ☺️☺️❤️

Since her last film, Kiami received a Bachelor degree in Psychology in 2008 from the University of Kentucky, with a minor in theater, according to Madame Noire. Four years later, she released her own short film, entitled “Reckless,” in 2012, reported IMDb.

Kiami and “Matilda” lead, Mara Wilson, are still good friends as can be seen by this photo posted of them chilling together last year.

Nobody’s got me like I’ve got me. I believed in me before anyone else did. I go above & beyond for myself, because I can’t expect anyone else. But I most definitely keep a select few real ones on my team.. And I’m so grateful for them. They know who they are & what they mean to me, so no need to get mushy lol. But honestly and truly over these past few weeks, during 1 of the craziest & frustrating times, I’ve mustered courage & strength I didn’t know I had. I’m continuing on this journey to being the absolute best Kiami that I can be. God is great, & His timing is impeccable. When He is for you, it matters not who is against you. I know who & whose I am. Continue to grow, shine, & surround yourself with people who not only believe in you, but fight with & for you.
