Traditionally, Christmas always meant spending quality time with family and loved ones. For one Texas family, Christmas would have been too late for one of their members, so for the most heartbreaking reason, they are celebrating Christmas in September … along with netizens all around the world!

Upon hearing the sombre news, father of four David Odum, 47, wasn’t sure if he would make it through to Christmas.

The husband and father from Frisco, Texas, had been diagnosed with terminal cancer of the appendix after experiencing serious digestive problems in April.

Later, he was told the tumors had spread and that he had only months to live.

“There’s a short time left,” Mr. Odum told Fox 4. “We’re not waiting a moment.”

“When we were talking about what he would like to do before he passes, he said he’d like to have one more holiday with his kids,” his wife, Becky Odum, said.

The consoling and deeply concerned family members also wanted to make his wish a reality.

“David loves the holidays and wishes for at least one more Christmas with his family, so we are going to give him one!” wrote Mrs. Odum on Facebook.

They started preparing Christmas decorations, and chose David’s birthday, Sept. 6, as the day for the early holiday celebration.

As there’s no better way to get into the Christmas spirit than hanging a wreath on the front door, Mrs. Odum got friends and family to join in the festivities by hanging up Christmas wreaths early and posting photos of them online.

The photos would then be compiled into a photo book, as a gift for Mr. Odum.

“I would love to collect at least 48 pictures of Christmas wreaths placed on the front door in his honor,” she added.

Unexpectedly, this simple request of hers garnered support from netizens all over the world.

Hundreds of photos of the wreaths kept pouring in online from as far away as Australia—not to mention real wreaths and Christmas cards delivered to their doorsteps!

Steve Kair, one of the participants in the wreath-hanging buzz, said, “Heck. If I didn’t have a two-story house, I’d put the lights up.”

The Odum family expressed thanks for the overwhelming support and comforts from everywhere.

Hopefully, Mr. Odum will get to celebrate his next Christmas on Dec. 25 of this year, even though his condition recently took a turn for the worse.

“As his energy faded and he began experiencing more frequent symptoms, I became so sad,” wrote Mrs. Odum.

The Odum family is focusing on living each moment to the fullest.

“If God graces us with Christmas in December, then we’ll have had two Christmases,” Mr. Odum said.
