Cops have ruled out carbon monoxide as the cause of the two five-month-old triplets death yesterday in Bridgend, South Wales.

A DESPERATE mum screamed “my babies, my babies” after discovering two of her triplets dead in their cot – with cops ruling out carbon monoxide poisoning as the cause of death.

Sarah Owen, 29, frantically called for help after discovering five-months-old Noah and Charlie had stopped breathing on Saturday morning.

Sarah, dressed in pyjamas, was seen by neighbours holding the third brother, Ethan, in her arms in the street in Wildmill, Bridgend, South Wales.

Firemen checked her house for carbon monoxide or a gas leak but cops have since ruled both out, citing the deaths a “tragic accident”.

Detective Inspector Dean Taylor said: “At this moment in time, there is nothing to suggest that carbon monoxide poisoning was the cause.

“In fact, there is nothing that leads us to believe that this was anything other than a tragic accident.

“Inquiries are continuing in to what caused the young boys’ tragic deaths.”

Meanwhile, a GoFundMe page set up by the tots’ heartbroken godmother has smashed its £5,000 fundraising target in under 24 hours. The money is to go towards their funeral costs.

Sarah has been told it could be a week before a post mortem test shows how her boys died.

A neighbour said: “Sarah’s a single mum and lives there with the triplets who were her pride and joy.

“She found Noah and Charlie dead when she got up on Saturday morning.

“She called for help and when no one came she dialled 999.

“The emergency services arrived and got her and Ethan out the house where she was screaming ‘my babies, my babies’.”

Family friend Anne Way, 64, saw firemen carrying the babies from the house to a waiting ambulance.

She said: “Sarah was totally distraught holding Ethan tightly to her chest.

“They wanted to take them both to hospital so I offered to take Ethan off her while she put her shoes on.

“But she shouted: “Leave my baby,” – she was in a terrible state.

“I saw the firemen carrying the two babies to the ambulances – they were like wax.

“I’ve seen dead babies before from working in the hospital and they had been dead for hours.”

Retired hospital receptionist Mrs Way said: “That’s what no one can understand – how two of the triplets died and one survived.

“As far as I know they all slept in the same room.”

The grandmother of the two boys earlier paid tribute to the “beautiful” tots, hailing it the “hardest day ever”.

Jane Owen took to Facebook yesterday to reveal her grief at the sudden and tragic loss.

Posting a picture of the smiling pair, she wrote: “Today I had hardest day ever to say goodbye to my most beautiful grandsons Noah and Charlie goodnight my darlings sleep tight till we meet again love u so much.”

The tots were found unconscious when mum Sarah went to check on them.

Officers arrived at the property after receiving a 999 call shortly after 10am on Saturday.

Firefighters and medics were also in attendance at the scene.

The tots were rushed to the Princess of Wales hospital in Bridgend but were tragically pronounced dead.

The third triplet is understood to be in good health.

The children’s godmother Siobhan Boyd has set up a GoFundMe page to support mum Sarah through the tragedy.

She wrote on the site: “Sadly two of my beautiful godsons passed away.

“I’m trying to raise money for their mother to help with the costs of flowers etc.

“If anybody would like to help hopefully we can raise enough to take the financial stress off Sarah at this difficult time.”

The triplets moved in with their young single mother after their birth in April – but were due to move out as the privately-owned house in a block of four has been sold.

A neighbour said: “It is a terrible tragedy. The young girl was a single parent and had only been in there a short time.

“She was often seen wheeling the triplets around estate – they were all boys and she doted on them.

“I saw them come out and it was a terrible sight.

“It is all the more sad because they were due to move out in a matter of weeks because the house has been sold by the landlord.”

Neighbour Anne Way, 64, said: “It was awful, I saw a firemen carrying one of the babies out in his arms.

“They worked on the other one in the ambulance but there was nothing they could do.”

Retired hospital receptionist Mrs Way said the babies’ mum had taken them for a check-up on Friday at the local clinic.

She said: “They were born premature because they were triplets but they were all doing so well.

“Their mum doted on them, she is a lovely girl and a good mother who gets lots of help from her parents.

“They were beautiful little boys and coming along well.”

Mother-of-four Mrs Way said the babies’ granddad had been back to the three-bedroom house after the tragedy.

She said: “They don’t know what caused it.

“They are carrying out tests and having post-mortems, it’s just dreadful.

“I saw a fire engine outside and I took my grandson out to see it.

“Within minutes the street was full of police, ambulances, first responders and fire officers.”

Another neighbour said: “It is shocking and no one can understand why two of the triplets died but the third is fine.

“I’ve heard they suffocated – the mum went to look in on them and saw they weren’t breathing.

“It’s dreadful for her – how will she ever get over something like that?”

Cops say there are no suspicious circumstances and that the incident is being treated as a tragic accident.

A police spokesman said: “The five-month-old children were conveyed to hospital where tragically they were later pronounced deceased.

“There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the deaths which are being treated as a tragic accident.”

Police declined to release further details about the tragedy as the family are still being comforted.

It is believed one line of inquiry is whether sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), also known as cot death, was involved.

A Home Office pathologist has been called in to carry out a post-mortem examination on the two babies.

A file is due to be prepared for Glamorgan coroner Andrew Barkley and an inquest is expected to be opened next week.
