Amidst the horror wreaked upon concertgoers during the recent Las Vegas massacre, stories of heroism also emerged. When one 5-year-old boy got separated from his mother and aunt, a stranger took him away from danger to safety, and then used the power of social media to get him back home.

Young Aden Huser’s mom, Doris, had taken his 8-year-old sister to the bathroom when the shooting started at the Las Vegas “Route 91” country music festival on Sunday. He was with his aunt when the chaos ensued.

Aden tripped and fell and got separated from his aunt and was all alone amidst the panic, as people ran for their lives, and gunshots rang out. He didn’t know what to do.

Twenty-six-year-old Lindsey Rogers, who had come to the music festival with some friends, saw Aden in a merchandise tent and decided she had to help him. She was hesitant to take the boy, as she feared his mother would be terrified, but decided she had to take him to safety.

Meanwhile, gunshots continued and they were by no means safe where they were. Lindsey shared her tumultuous experience:

I was nervous to take him because I knew that his mom would be devastated to find that her child was gone, but in the moment we thought that the best decision was to get as many people as safe as possible. The shots were so sporadic and it wasn’t stopping so we took a chance.

She took Aden and ran to the nearest building, the Motel 6. Afterward, she took him to the hospital and attempted to contact the boy’s mother through social media. She and several others, including police officer Chris Cunningham and his girlfriend, Taylor Sutton, posted a photo of the boy to get the word out about his location and condition.

Lindsey made a very good chose, I would have done the exact same thing. The boy needed safety and he was separated from his family, Lindsey made a quick but smart decision, I hope if I were to ever be in a situation where I parted from my daughter on accident that someone like Lindsey would help my daughter find me.
