This is the horrifying moment a newborn baby boy was snatched as he slept next to his mother in a hospital in India.

A CCTV footage shows how an unidentified woman sneaked into a maternity ward and carried the child away, just six hours after he was born. By the time the new mother woke up, she couldn’t find her baby beside her and raised alarm.

Mohini Mohan Bhavar, 19, had gone to Thane Civil Hospital where her healthy baby was safely delivered. In the early hours of the morning, as she slept beside her baby, a woman approached her claiming her mother-in-law sitting outside asked her to bring the child, so the mother, weary from labour, allowed her take the child.

Mohini said: “At 1am a woman approached me claiming my mother-in-law sitting outside was asking for the child, and took him. When I woke up around 4 am I saw my child was missing. My family members sitting outside were unaware of the woman.

“When we inquired with the hospital authorities, they said they were unaware of any such thing.”

Mohini and her horrified family reported the case to the police who have launched a kidnapping investigation. They are examining CCTV from inside and outside the hospital in a bid to identify the woman. A clip shows a woman walking away from the camera wearing a pink saree, which she pulls over her head.

A police spokesman said: “The footage shows that the woman took the child from the first bed of the ward and immediately left the hospital. The victim’s bed was close to the exit door and we suspect it is a planned crime. We are investigating the matter to nab the accused.”

The shocking child snatching has raised questions about security at the hospital in the city of Thane, in the state of Maharashtra, western India. On Sunday people from the village protested outside the hospital, complaining about the lack of security. They are demanding action against the staff who were working at the time of the abduction.

There were two nurses and a doctor on the ward but they were attending a patient who had gone into labour when the child was snatched.

This is just horrible one they should have better security it should not be that easy to walk in and just take someone child and I know the mother is devastated by her child being taken I know I would probably lose my mind if someone took my child this is just sad 😔

It should def.ily be more then four hospital staff on duty.. it should be a guard outside the maternity ward if all the mothers are in one big room.. the lack of security is ridiculous
