A man is accused of threatening to stab a pregnant woman in the womb and throw acid on her face.

Rakim Braithwaite, 27, from Greenford in Middlesex, is alleged to have punched a pregnant woman twice and threatened to kill her during an 11-month campaign of abuse.

Braithwaite allegedly threatened a pregnant woman with violence if she didn’t contact abortion clinics, then faked phone calls designed to fool her into thinking he was arranging an attack on her, the Old Bailey heard.

He is also accused of saying that he would ‘smash her in the face and beat the child out of her’ and told her he would ‘knock her out and stamp’ on her until she haemorrhaged.

The allegations emerged in court papers as Braithwaite appeared in court today wearing a hooded black coat and jeans charged with attempted baby destruction on May 16 last year.

The charge states he tried ‘to destroy the life of a child that was capable of being born’.

Braithwaite is also charged with ‘controlling or coercive behaviour’ towards the pregnant woman between 29 December 2015 and 21 November last year, while in an ‘intimate or family relationship’. He denies both charges.

Braithwaite is alleged to have caused the pregnant woman to fear that violence would be used against her on at least two occasions and the particulars of the charge set out six alleged incidents.

The first states Braithwaite threatened the pregnant woman with violence if she did not contact abortion clinics as directed and pretended to make phone calls to instigate an attack on her, in or around February last year.

The following month he is alleged to have pretended to have a knife and threatened to stab her in the womb.

On an unknown date, Braithwaite punched the pregnant woman following a row about the date of her eviction, it is claimed.

On another occasion Braithwaite is accused of threatening to go to the pregnant woman’s workplace to ‘smash her face and beat the child out of her’.

A further particular states Braithwaite threatened to knock her out and stamp on her until she haemorrhaged on 11 November last year.

The following day he is said to have punched her, said he would kill her and threatened to throw acid in her face.

Braithwaite spoke only to confirm his name during today’s short hearing before pleading not guilty to the two charges.

Judge Richard Marks QC, the Common Sergeant of London, said he faces a two-week trial at the same court on September 25.

You should really get to know a person before having a baby by someone. Harming a pregnant woman is dangerous and I’m glad she called the police. Babies need a chance at living.
